In all fairness to Coldplay and other bands that have been accused of plagiarising, there will always be songs that will make the listener - including the "inventor" - sit up and go "hey, that riff sounds familiar". if the chord progressions were similar, then Coldplay have nothing to worry about because you can't copyright something as simple as that. but this time the phrasing and note lengths are exactly the same. I can see (read: hear) what you mean. There are some obvious similarity. But Hatesong is right, chord progression can't be copyrighted; if it could, man, then McCartney-Lennon would be trillionaires (at least before the divorce and the assassination, respectively!).
