The Cincinatti Kid Had to watch it after my poker games last night. There is more testosterone in that one than in Rounders. I completely forgot about Rip Torn's character. Despicable.

The Reckoning A nice performance by Paul Bettany, and a good if somewhat predictable tale. I worked with Willem Dafoe's brother last year for a few months, and I'm finding it hard to not superimpose his brother's voice (which is much more cheery) when I see Willem, but that's just me. Loses points for the plot predictability as noted, and for Vincent Cassel's general cheesiness, but period detail...

Match Point - 1st time - - It's not quite yet Allen at his best it felt too much like a lesser version of Crimes and Misdemeanors , but I certainly enjoyed it. We need more movies heavy on cynicism. De-Lovely - 1st time - - Lots of monotonous musical numbers, poorly patched together by seemingly essential but ultimately inconsequent moments of Porter's life (oh, now he went to Hollywood; oh, ...

Except for Scarlett Johannson's acting (which one could actually argue was supposed to be a bit over the top her character was a failed actress, after all), I actually was thinking that MP was a lesser C&M. ze424 wrote:...

North by Northwest A funny, thrilling romp across the country from Hitchcock. Grant is terrific as the title role, with a sarcastic yet unknowing persona simply in the wrong place at the wrong time. The suspensions of disbelief are easily dispelled by everything else that makes this work. The scenes in the cornfield and on Rushmore are great. Of the three Hitchcocks I've seen, this is about even ...

The Bone Collector Good solid thriller. Sky High Good clean fun. She's Out of Control Good god what was I thinking? Although seeing a very young Matthew Perry was fun.

More catching up... O' Horten Cinema A Norwegian tale of a train conductor as he retires. It's definitely a slow film with not a lot going on (and in this scene, Odd Horten buys a pipe!), but it's sweet and full of a bunch of great/fun scenes (e.g. visiting Flo, driving blindfolded). The Brothers Bloom Cinema Sneak In I think I really need to see Brick --I've heard so many great things about that, I was expecting brilliance...
Humphrey wrote: Fucking Amal A very good film. Warmly recommended to one and all. So, who else thought at first glance that humphrey was reviewing a porno full of back door action?

fishn4 wrote: The Curious Case of Benjamin Button I expected to like this a whole lot more but something just wasn't there. One of the main things that put me off was the weird looking CGI Benjamin through the first bit of the movie. Gollum looked 100 times better and more real, maybe though because we didnt expect Gollum to be human. It just looked way too hokey. I liked the atmosphere of the movie and the idea but not how it all played...
Nunis wrote: Oh hell, I like seeing the occasional bad movie, too. I've been a proponent for that here on FW for many years. I just prefer not paying for them or taking time out of my day for them. I don't need movies dictating what my schedule looks like. I also don't need to see every Tyler Perry movie or a random paint-by-numbers Sandra Bullock romcom to appreciate how good The Godfather is. I pick my garbage very carefully,...
Star Trek - Entertaining, but way too much hyped. The Da Vinci Code - I had very low expectations for this movie, which probably helped me enjoy it, that and not reading the book. X-Men Origins: Wolverine - Hardly one of the worst comic books adaptations out there, but way better than The Last Stand. Night at the Museum - What made people think this should get a sequel? Knowing - Spoiler for spoileroni Nicolas Cage is denied from getting...
Role Models At times laugh out loud-funny. Not bad, really. The Matrix What a load of entertaining bollocks. The Matrix Reloaded What a load of bollocks. Fucking Amal A very good film. Warmly recommended to one and all.
I love Roth. He's my favorite director right now and I think he's one of the few who are doing horror the way I like it. I think he made Hostel 2 under the assumption that everyone going had seen the first one and was expecting certain things. He had to make a movie that could follow the formula of the first one yet turn it on its ass and give you something you don't see coming. I think its a shame if Hostel 2's poor box...
(catching up) The Life and Times of Judge Roy Bean I didn't really know what I was getting into with this one, and loved the dark comedic aspect of it. Some really nice breaking down of the 4th wall too. It was heading for a - rating, but the turn it took near the end was a bit too extreme for me though. Ninotchka A lovely romantic comedy, that surprisingly didn't feel dated in spite of the setting. Tom Jones I can see some of the...

Yeah, it was hidden in between the Indian girl in the canoe and...
