I recently got an air mattress for my bad back, and while it has down wonders for my sleeping, I fear there's already a puncture hole in it because it's definitely losing air at a very slow rate. Several times now, I've pumped the mattress to a certain rigidity but within 24 hours, it has softened up. So my question is what is the best way of finding a puncture hole so I can repair it?...

Put it under water and bubbles will come out of the hole. That's how I check bike tires. -------------------- That guy who posts as Davros on the Trekbbs 08! Never "convicted" of a felony.

get some soapy water and brush it on the mattress. if there's a leak, you'll see bubbles. Then use mashed potatoes to seal it -------------------- -" bro is right (take note of that, because I'll probably never say it again )" - Orac Zen -"Treasure my ass!" - star -"Just because I'm a mod it doesn't mean I don't have any balls" - spider1

IF you mean an air mattress like a select comfort type of bed, you need to check the plastic tubes that connect the air pump to the mattress. May sure they are seated well and check for leaks cracks (Follow the Davros method). Then try the bro method to actually check the mattress. If those two don't work, then I'm willing to bet that the problem is with the motor. Probably the ...

Thanks for the suggestions. I don't have a tub big enough to submerge the mattress (and I don't have a pool at all), so I'll try the soapy water method first. The pump is separate from the mattress and attaches to a seal at the end of the mattress. As far as I can tell, both that seal and the regular seal (like for beach balls) are tightly sealed. just put it in a quiet spot and listen maybe put some weight on it to press air out faster. other than that maybe blow some cigarette smoke into the thing. -------------------- The reason we have two ears and only one mouth, is that we may hear more and speak less. - Zeno of Cittium (334-262 BC)

Yeah, I'd do the soapy water thing and if you don't see anything, just sit on the mattress and try to blow bubbles. -------------------- "It was...stunning to realize that the three current and former senators who have survived the shakeout process -- Hillary Clinton, Barack Obama and John Edwards -- have not a day of chief executive experience behind them."
