Advertisements [ ? ] Franken pays $70,000 in back taxes and penalties in 17 states "DFL U.S. Senate candidate Al Franken, front-runner in the race to unseat Republican U.S. Sen. Norm Coleman, said Tuesday that he has paid $70,000 in back taxes in 17 states, where he earned income going back to 2003. Franken told the Associated Press that he never intended to...

as the delegates to the state convention have been chosen. Someone could decide to run in the primary, but I haven't heard any rumors of that and if they had any hope of succeeding they would need money, name recognition and a good organization.

They say Franken mistakenly paid all the taxes he owes in one state instead of 17 states as he was supposed to. He'll now pay taxes in all 17 states and then what he paid to one state he'll have reduced. It's a wash--some say. That's not to say the GOP mouthpieces won't spin it to make it sound like Franken is a tax cheat, regardless of what the facts are. And if it turns out that Franken is ...

Only time will tell. The facts don't matter so much as the spin. What is needed is responsible media and voters capable of critical thinking. Could be trouble.

...facts are irrelevant. The spin is the only thing that matters. That's what makes it so difficult running as a Democrat; how do you campaign against an opponent who's party machinery cheerfully and frequently will tell half-truths and nothing but half-truths (at best). The blatant hypocrisy of MN GOP Chair Ron Carey blasting Franken for accounting problems, when the MN GOP has had nothing ...

Thats only my sense though... I thought that about Wellstone too. He was up against a nasty Republican too in Rudy Boschwitz. I think Al has been up front about it and will be fine.

The guy seems to convert everyone who hears him speak - and with the financial backing of the party, everyone would hear him speak. People are hungry for a truth-teller, and sick of Colemanesque weasel-wording. I agree that Al has been upfront about his finances and will be fine. On his accountant's advice, he paid all those taxes to his state of residence, instead of paying them in the many ...

when Rudy sent out the "good Jew/bad Jew" letter. I don't know if we can depend on Normie for that kind of help. But, the advantage Jack may have now that Paul didn't in the 1990 race is the netroots.

From http://www.tradingmarkets.com/.site/news/Stock%20N ews/1... / ------------------- We like to pile on political candidates as much as the next group of scribblers, but it seems that the tax problems of Democratic U.S. Senate candidate Al Franken are a few billion dollars short of a juicy scandal. Perhaps we feel that way because one among our far-flung opinion-page staff once made the ...
