Your assumptions were correct. Many of those keys should not have been there, but I like to give them all in case there is a problem with the uninstall. The problem you are seeing now is definitely a problem reading from source. Did you download an Office 2007 ISO from somewhere and then burn to dvd? Is it retail media? Thank You. I'm beginning to think this is a lost cause. I tried what you suggested, and what XS11E suggested, to no avail. I ended up using the Windows restore function to restore to a point before I installed Office 2007. Then I followed your registry/file clean-up procedure.
