I rarely hear any mention made of Cubase 4's included VSTi(s) - specifically Prologue, Spector or Mystic. Are they decent, ho-hum, outstanding? Thnx, Greg

I've recently rediscovered them after becoming more comfortable with synthesis in general and I really dig them. (I got Cubase 4 before I had a firm grip on what I was doing. ) They're easy to use, sound great and you can coax some insane sounds out of them. If you were to judge them by the number of raving internet posts, then you'd get the wrong impression imo. I find myself using my ...

Sound On Sound has an ongoing series of articles about them. I think that compared to other plugins, the lack of on-board effects and the idea that they came with the application causes most people to skip it. Patches require effects to be finished, and something like Massive has 2 inserts and 2 global effects put on every patch - so it automagically sounds "better".

They don't have on-board effects but Cubase also ships with a slew of effects you can add, too. I would say that the reason I did not get into them is that they were harder "learning" synths. Now that they have been brought up, I think I really should go back and revisit some of them.

FYI they do indeed have editable "onboard" effects (delays, distortions, mods). And why would you (Yoozer) comment on them if you don't even have them? This place.

Thanks folks for all your input. I posed the same question at KC @ MPN, got one repsonse - positive, echoed some of the comments at KVR where I also posted. Mainly about them being derived from VirSin's Tera. If that's the case great as Tera is def. in my top 10 or 12. Some say they're boring to look at. I think they just say "professional". I like them. Pretty sure I'm going to purchase C4 soon...
