i will be going to italy with the family for a week: one night/afternoon in rome, a day in orvieto and then the rest in a farmhouse just outside perugia. i've got the slow food guide, but if you have any not-to-be-missed suggestions i'd love to hear them with the following caveat: i want to stay very far away from foo-foo-michelin-star-aspiring places. thanks in advance.

When you are in the Perugia area, head to Gubbio and go to Taverna del Lupo. It is elegant but unpretentious. Be sure to have the Coniglio a la Taverniera (stuffed rabbit), the house specialty. I also loved the lasagne with white truffles. Had a great lunch in Orvieto, but unfortunately I can't remember the name of the restaurant, only that it had a nice outdoor terrace. I had goat which ...

I'm not sure what "foo-foo-michelin-star-aspiring places" are but as I responded to another post, I Sette Consoli in Orvieto is a fabulous restaurant. We really love the food there when we go to Orvieto.
