When I press on the garage door opener, the unit hums but the garage door will not open. When I press on the door open button inside the garage, same story-- humming, but it will not open. Any suggestions that you might have will be appreciated. Thanks.

the small belt on top of the unit is broken.it happend to me.i just bought a new door opener.they didnt have the belt for mine.

IF ITS HUMMING, YOU MAY HAVE LOOSE WIRE CONNECTION. YOU SHOULD HERE THE MOTOR TURNING IF THE BELT WAS BROKEN.

Is the door stuck in tracks or locked or binding? Is the motor turnning but the belt not moving? answers to my questions: unlock the door, pull the release cord and open door manualy to feel if it is bound up. push the open button while the release cord is unlucked and see if the motor was working freely.

Unhook the door from the opener and verify that you dont have a broken spring on your door. If the moter doesnt start it could very well be a capacitor the black or grey tube with 2 or four wires going to it, if its bad there may be some smelly liquid coming out of it. Hope this helps

With opener disconnected from door see if the screw is turning in the operator track. If it is look for a broken door spring or perhaps the trolley is bad inside. If it is not turning look for a bad capacitor. (probably two yellow and two orange wires going to it) ALWAYS unplug opener before taking off cover. No belt on this unit, it is a direct drive.
