Fioricet during pregnancy | Thread profile

Prior to becoming preggo, I took Fioricet w/codine to battle my migranes. When I went to the ob today, I told the OB nurse that I was taking Fioricet and she said she would call it in. Now that I have gotten to a computer to look up the safety of Fioricet, it isn't rated too well. Has anyone been told that Fioricet is ok? Thanks for the help! Jennifer

Many narcotics are ok in pregnancy. I used to take Fioricet, but now prefer Maxalt, although since pregnant haven't had any migraines and I am not sure Maxalt is safe in pregnancy anyways. I hope your migraines taper off soon. They often do if there is any hormonal correlation. [#]

My OB prescribed this for me about 3 weeks ago due to some severe headaches. She is completely comfortable with it as needed.

I was on Midrin as needed for migraines prior to this pregnancy. When I went in for my first prenatal visit, I told my OB that I had been having headaches that Tylenol didn't help and he wrote me a prescription for Fioricet. I'm guessing it's ok. I don't think mine has codeine in it though. Kelly

My old OB prescribed it for migraines as well with my last pg. But I wasn't comfortable taking it and I ended up trying a combo of Tylenol, caffeine, dark room, and cold compresses. I didn't expect it to put a dent in the pain but it turned out it made it manageable! GL, Gen [f]

i had lots of headaches early in my GGGG pg and my perinatologist prescribed me fioricet. i had never heard of it until she prescribed it for me. and it worked wonders! so i think if they gave it to me, a high-risk pg, then maybe it's okay[shr] hth & gl!

fioricet is just like excedrine with barbiturates. I was told not to take excedrine after the 2nd trimester. I would not feel comfortable taking it fioricet while pregnant (I was on it for a short period of time several years ago). However, if your OB says it is an acceptable risk, then I'm sure it is fine.

I took it for migraines all through both my pregnancies. It worked really well.
