Hi Guys, I have a standard USA Strat, which has, up until now, been strung with 9's or 10's (Fender Bullets). I've just re-strung it with 11's, and have noticed that the trem plate is now pitched forward (towards the neck). I appreciate that the extra tension of the heavier guage strings will be the root cause of this, but should I do anything to the guitar to allow the trem plate to sit ...

You can tighten the screws on the springs - if there is any adjustment left - or as you say fit more springs Post Extras: Back to top

Just in case you need a more detailed explanation...It's common practice to readjust the bridge (and intonation) when a gauge change happens. There is a screwed-in assembly called the "claw" into which the springs are anchored. There are normally 2 screws providing a tensioning mechanism for the bridge. These should, in your case, be tightened a turn or so each, the strings retuned, and ...

One thing to watch out for..As you tighten the screws in the trem claw you will pull the strings sharp. So tune down a whole tone, tighten the screws and then tune again. If the trem plate is sitting at the normal angle, fine, if not, make further adjustments step by step. It's a bit of a juggling act I'm afraid. But a work step by step and be patient and you'll be fine. And as previously ...

Thanks for all the useful information guys - all taken on!Unfortunately, getting a pro setup will have to wait until the next time i'm in civilisation (December), as my guitar and I are currently 'on tour' in the Falkland islands.I've got it pretty close by following your suggestions and trawling the Fender site (some good info there). Tuning, intonation and action are ok, but I think i'll ...

You might also consider that you don't necessarily want the trem to be absolutely flat. If it sits up a little, you are able to bend notes both down and up with the trem. You would still need to adjust the intonation, though. Post Extras: Back to top

agreed I usually like my trem set up so that its raised 3-4mm at the back - I think this is quite usual Post Extras: Back to top
