Hi. just wondered if electric guitar strings are ok to put on an acoustic (obviously not replacing nylon strings here)? Its just that I have at least ten sets of electric and thought I might use them on my dreadnought. -------------------- 'Writing about music is like dancing about architecture'

Sell them and spend the money on proper strings. I'd worry about the damage they could do to the bridge end, a thin gauge unwound string could be pulled into the bridge under high tension. Hewesy

Only the unwound G would be an issue for the saddle; the B and E are unwound in both electric and acoustic sets. And the G will be fat enough that it shouldn't be a big deal, unless you've got a very cheap plastic saddle. And realistically, if you've strung it with electric 9s or 10s then the tension is going to be hardly anything anyway compared with the 12s/13s that acoustics are ...

Have a look at Darco strings from hotroxuk.com - They're about £2.50 a set and are made by Martin. I always used D'addarios on my Martin but I'd bought a few sets of these just to string up the cheapy I leave in the front room and to be honest, for £2.50 a set I think they're brilliant. Maybe my ears are knackered, but I couldn't tell much difference between those and a set costing 3x as...
