My preference for traditional 6 screw Strat-type bridges is to get them flat on the guitar body and either physically block them or tighten up the springs to keep the bridge from tipping forward when I bend strings. I was wondering if anyone out there had tried the same process with a 2 point trem, something like the current Fender USA or Wilkinson bridges? Any hints or tips? Any ...

I have both types and its pretty much the same as a classic 6 screw Fender trem. As most six screw trems are really only pivoting on the two outer screws anyway if set up correctly. I have mine set to float on my US Standard at the moment though...

Thanks for that. I went ahead and tightened the bridge right down with no problems, but as I thought (feared?) the saddle height adjusting screws weren't long enough to compensate for the lower bridge plate. It needed a shim in the neck pocket to help bring the strings back to the body. I'm far too hamfisted to keep a floating trem in tune, sad to say, so a blocked-up, screwed-down ...

I find strats stay in tune very well if you get them set up properly. The trick is to go to a guy who knows how to cut the nut properly and who does the due diligence with all the other stuff like the security of the tuners. Tuners with locking ferrules often work loose and the same bits often suffer from something which I call "snatchback". This happens when the tuner button is to ...

I find I can make a Strat go out of tune by looking at it funny! You're right of course that a pro set-up will help enormously to keep any trem-equipped guitar in tune. Even so, I'd always rather stop the trem from floating - it makes swapping string gauges & tunings much easier, I won't pull the tuning sharp when I palm mute and I've got a fighting chance of staying in tune (-ish) if I...

The Doc is on the money, A floating bridge is the icing on the cake. For it to work right you have to get the nut, machine heads and saddles right 1st. Nothing complex, just simple things done well. The essence of any decent set-up. Andy
