what is a fair price for one in good condition. it seems to be a relatively obscure amp and I can't find too much info on it. If anyone here owns one or has direct experience with it can they talk about it a bit. (how do you like it, reliability, flaws or issues, etc) thanks

I've had one (not the + but the normal .22, only difference being the lack of a master), great little amp, one of the best sounding amps I've ever had. However, it wasn't the most reliable thing in the world although I'm sure a good service would have sorted it out. Fair price? Well, I'm in the UK and Mesa are an expensive brand here, 400-525 would be the usual going rate for a used one, pick a ...

thanks for the reply overturned. Just out of curiosity what do you mean by "it wasn't the most reliable amp in the world". Was there a specific problem you had. The reason I'm asking is because I have the oppurtunity to buy one but I don't want to spend the 450 or so dollars if I will have to put alot of money into fixing the amp and replacing expensive parts. It is completely functional as of ...

Well the problem I had with mine occurr'd at a band practice session where it just cut out. I took it apart then and there and pushed a screwdriver round it (safety first ) and got it working again and it was fine for about a week after until I sold it. The buyer never contacted me to say there was anything up after he bought it so I assumed everything was fine. I don't know what the exact fault ...

I've got a subway rocket reverb which is a bit like a later version of the studio 22. Its a great amp. It's a two channel amp, but has a shared EQ, which is a bit of a shame. But the footswitchable Contour mode on the lead channel makes up for this fact. My amp hasn't had any problems. The only issue was caused my myself, and was just a case of Microphonic preamp tubes brought on by me running ...

Thanks for the info guys. By the way, would you say US 0 is a fair price? The amp has the original tubes, so I'm guessing I will have to replace them eventually. Any ideas on where to get 2 mesa el84's? I can't seem to find a source for them. If I can't find them, what would be a good alternative el84? Please recommend something or I'll just be buying tubes in the dark and experimenting...

$400 is a good price. I was looking at picking one of those up for $500 a year back. Nice little amps.

You can buy the Mesa EL84s from off the Mesa website. Sticking with Mesa tubes is the easiest thing to do, because mesa are fixed bias amps and the tubes have been specially matched and tested to suit this fixed bias. Using other brands of tubes may not guarantee a suitable match and a reliable amp. But, that's not ruling out the use of other tube brands completely. If you can get some...
