Hi, It is quite interesting: every time I download Google maps application from www.google.com/gmm I get sis file with different UID (for same handset). Same behavior is observed for opera mini also. Anybody know how these applications change there UIDs (on the fly) for each download? I see that they do not show Security warning during installation and application are symbian signed. ...

I think the question should be: How do you know the UID is different?

Or why do you know/care ? :) Which reminds me of a question I had in mind for a long time: what is the legitimate use for a tool like dumpsis and why is one provided to developers?

Simple: Nokia do not provide cost effective, sufficient and documented API's to third parties and persist in using internal API's that they will not make avaliable to 3rd Parties.

It allowed us to provide justification for a number of partnering API's It allowed us to reverse engineer a number of API's to provide the equivalent functionality in our application.

Yes, but I was asking about "legitimate" use, reverse engineering of Nokia or 3rd party provided binaries cannot be described as such. As for API Partnering describing the use case should be more than enough, you do not need to "research" into providing the exact API name. But well, we're digressing ...

Legitimate would be in the context of what the SDK's EULA says about reverse engineering and more importantly the expectations you have with regards to the "integrity" of your own binary releases. We can of course discuss about the API Partnering process, the Forum Nokia Services feedback forum is still waiting for some input. ;)
