Those of you with spools, especially those who've gone down... do they really help? Is there a point? Do they work really well or just more for those with full fairings?

I have bars from southwestmotech that are small and unobtrusive. I really liked the bars from GIVI that fully cage over the engine...damn things wouldn't fit! That's all you're hoping for with spools (sliders) is that they will keep the engine cases off the pavement in a lowside or drop. No thanks. I'm not going to test mine any time soon!

I just spent the past 4 hours installing frame sliders. Somehow I managed the entire install without access to a ratchet or allen wrenches... It is amazing what you can do with a sledgehammer...

Well, I tried out my sliders... I'll post a pic later. I let my dad sit on the bike, he fiddles with the gears. I hopped on for a ride. My driveway ends perpendicular to a very steep hill. I thought I put it in first, guess I didn't step hard enough, I coasted into the road, tried to put it in gear, and zip, there I went. I dodged a curb and plopped over in the grass. Damage report: my ...

Well, Holeshot has a super nice pair of Nerf bars, but the spools seem higher up and seem like they would protect better. Course after my first time out now, I kinda don't think I'll need them. I don't see dropping this for any other reason than a total accident.
