There are several threads on neutering here and this might apply to all of them. This is for male dogs. As someone rightly pointed out, no one can tell you whether their boy now behaves better because they neutered him because if they did they no longer know how he behaves as an intact. Maybe he would just have matured into better behaviour anyway, maybe not. But now, if you think your male ...

i'd rather the "finality of the operation" than long time use of drugs.

Well of course, if the "road test" shows reduced problems then you have the option of castration. Quote: Suprelorin® will provide temporary sterilisation for at least six months. Certain behavioural problems are driven by testosterone, namely roaming, inter-dog aggression and certain sexual behaviours. Castration may not solve 100% of cases. ...

These "bad" behaviors many ask about and if neutering will curtail them are a training issue. Neutering a dog will not stop him from lifting his leg or humping. The only thing it would curtail is the dog taking off after a bitch in heat. The owner needs to give corrections and teach proper behavior. I too would rather neuter than give constant drugs. I see no benefit in keeping a ...

Neutering does not stop humping. Good training does. Neutering does take him off the dating list but also greatly reduces the chance of certain types of cancer, i.e. testicular cancer. In females, spaying greatly reduces uterine infections, uterine cancer and breast cancer. Why put another chemical in their body, they are subjected to so many now.

My apologies. I thought the post was clear but apparently not. I did not mean to start another debate on whether or not to neuter or spay. I just wanted to point out that a new drug is available for those who might want to see if neutering will help with sexually motivated behavioural problems before they commit the deed. If someone has already made the decision to neuter then obviously this...

Well, I actually would never give my dog a drug like this. It's like I wouldn't give my dogs the pills that de-acidify their urine just to save my lawn. In the same way I don't take needless medication either. I think the world is a little drug-happy. Look at the situation with anti-biotics. They are a wonderful thing, but so many doctors/vets give them out for ANYTHING (even non-...
