My German Shepherd dog is 18 months old and I am planning on having him neutered. The vet I use has quoted $450 for a routine neutering which seems high. I live in Northern Virginia and would appreciate recommendations for where I can get him neutered economically without compromising on his safety. Thanks

Well, I'm in Oregon, so it's not area, but I was looking for pricing on getting Holly spayed (40 lbs), and $470 was the average. Neutering is usually less, but given your dog's size, I'm not surprised at the cost. I finally found a Spay/Neuter Clinic in a nearby town that did it for $85. It was worth the 1-hour each way drive. Have you tried calling around to other vets, or Humane ...

Wow, neutering is expensive in your guys areas. Banfield (Petsmart's vet) I am pretty sure is around 200 and I was always under teh impression they were considered expensive. My vet charges for a neuter less than 100 (I think 80) and nothing over 200 (I don't remember what the most expensive is but it's for a large female dog that has been in heat before). Most times I hear prices ...

call your local humane society, they can direct you to low cost vets and clinics. It should be more in the $100-$200 range IMO

Our Humane society back home would do any breed of dog for less than $100 - except APBT's...which they did for free or would pay you $20 to have your dog fixed (Phoenix Metro area) Same goes for up here, any size dog $35 to neuter with the humane society...they also offer vouchers if you want to take them to your own vet at a discounted price, those are issued by the agriculture department, ...

Wow....it costs me about $85 for a dog neuter. Around $100 for a dog spay. That's what my regular vet charges, and that's normal for this area. $450 for a simple neuter is seriously excessive. No wonder so many people don't neuter their pets.

My goodness. Gouging...just gouging. That is VERY expensive for a neuter IMO. We payed $300 for Shunka's spaying...altogether. The actual spaying was 0, plus anesthia, blood testing, rabies and parvo vaccines, and so on. Here it would be around $50 through $75 for a male. If I were you, I would be looking for some place cheaper. (I'll be getting quotes about neutering tomorrow.) And ...
