Jerica glad your Willow just ignored the yell of your husband, she seemed an understanding and loving toddler. My Wishbone is JRT and I just notice from last couple of weeks he slow down on his excessive running around and mostly enjoying now his gnaw toys. Hope he might experience some herding when we visit grandpa's place around this April and hope not with chickens.

How many of you here have herders? I have a rescued ( all of my dogs have been rescues) Aussie Cattle Dog, before her, I had a Border Collie. I love the herding breeds, for their intelligence, altho sometimes I wonder about mine They need a job and to be kept busy, and I find a rare joy in that as well. My ACD get's to chase the cows up the road here, not much makes her happiers...

Never had a "pure" herding dog myself. I've had 2 Terriers (Cairn), 1 Sporting (Curly Coated Retriever), 1 Guardian/Working (Rottweiler) and a mutt that goes into the scent hound group and partially into the herding group (Beagle/Shepherd). They are amazingly smart dogs though. Border Collies are supposedly the smartest dogs. Edit: 2 Mutts! I forgot Loeke (Shepherd/Newfie)!

I have two. Tucker is an australian shepherd and D.D. (short for @$%$ Dog) is a border collie. They're great pals but you're right - they need a job. Tucker's gotten a lot better in his old age but D.D. can still be a handful. She has this thing for paper (of any kind). Always sneaking it out of the garbage can and shredding it all over the house.

I love herding dogs, but my house seems to be a sporting dog haven. English springer spaniel, english pointers, cocker spaniels, and english setter. Hehe. We love the bird dogs I suppose. But I do adore my border collie and the herding dogs I've worked with.

My guys are all rescues as well...the breeds were just sort of accidental as I didn't go looking for them, they all sort of found me! I just lost my shih tzu, Max, last week... his "story" is linked to my signature. I think if I went out to choose a breed intentionally, it would be a GSD or a Swiss Mountain dog.

I have a herder (Australian Shepherd), but living in the burbs doesn't give him much of a chance to herd. He does, however, keep his flock here pretty well under control. 4 of my 5 children are boys and they range in age from 16 (driving ) down to 4. No one is allowed to be rough in our house or they get a reprimand from Finn. Anyone who dares to manhandle my now 4 year old will know ...
