often repeated request ;~) I was specifically looking not for examples of nice guys in action, or nice guys in recovery, but movies with examples of not nice guys that nice guys in recovery should look up too. Role models. John wayne immediately comes to mind for me, but real world examples are what I am looking for. What about more modern examples? (or are there any left :~0...

The remake of "The Thomas Crown Affair." Pierce Brosnon does an excellent job on Rene Ruso (She is hot in this movie.) I have watched it 3 or 4 times, and each time I pick up something else.

I can recommend Malcolm Reynolds on Firefly . He is a model of determination, he takes care of his crew, and he is fiercely independent. Not to mention extremely hard to bring down.

Legends of the Fall This one is especially good for the relationship between Tristan and Alfred. There is a classic NG moment when Alfred asks for his father's blessing to run for mayor, then gets offended when he refuses (covert contracts). Collateral Vincent forces Max out of his comfort zone, and you get to see him gradually begin losing his NG behavior and standing up for...

Movies for the recovering Nice Guy: 300 -- King Leonidas is how real men are supposed to carry themselves. Sin City -- Marv is a walking, talking, modern-day barbarian. V for Vendetta -- Makes you realize just how deep the NG fear goes. Fight Club -- for obvious reasons. American Beauty -- NG realizes his life sucked ass and decided to change it. The Matrix -- Become the One....

Anyway, the more I think about it, the more the IM version of George McFly is a perfect role-model for us. He's confident without being...

I've always liked the interaction between Pacino and De Niro in Heat. Both of these guys know exactly what they are and don't pretend to be different. About the only glitch in is this is De Niro's character's fantasy of running off to New Zealand. Then again Pacino's character echoes this in trying to sustain marriages that don't work for him.
