Hi guys Just wondering if anyone has used a domain buy agent to buy an already taken but unused website address? It's registered with Godaddy and they are offering to use their agents to try and acquire the address...anyone had any experience with them? Many thanks

Who are offering? Go Daddy? I would just do a whois and see if there is an email address, phone number or even postal address so that you can approach the owner directly. I don't see any reason to pay a middle man on such a simple matter. It will probably be held by a domain camping parasite though that wants thousands, or even tens of thousands for it. Most registered domains not in...

Thanks for the reply. I've checked the Whois and I know they're from Florida and have had it since 2001 but there are no contact details on there so I have to use an agent. It's to go with an established UK site so no chance of changing the name really.

it's a shame it isn't a .co.uk address because nominet will kick off domain campers if you can prove you have the company registered in that particular name. I'd push for a main .co.uk domain and try and get a .com in the meantime.

What can Godaddy do that others cannot? If a domain name is taken then it is taken - there is very little you can do about it. Just because a domain has no website doesn't mean it isn't in use. I have domains that are just used for email or for Nameservers. Other uses include FTP etc. Nobody has any automatic right to a domain name unless a domain has been registered in bad faith. ...
