Lee Dana, former head of engineering for 29 years at Bertram endorsed the Bertram 28 saying "I'd pick a 28 over a 31 for two reasons - it's a dryer boat (because of the increased bow flare) and it handles better". http://www.boatsonline.com.au/boats/ed.html?de=370 19 Nic _________________ Hull No. 330 1963 SF "Tennessee"

Hey Nic, That might be so for 28 s built in the US, but that's a Australian built 28 by International Marine ,( discontinued model) which I believe may not have been constructed just quite the same ???? Aussie Syd US built 33 Sport Fish Perth WA

Hi Syd, Welcome aboard, a friend of yours on this site mentioned you had a 33 sportfish in Perth, good to meet you. I see there are two 33s, both with Cats, for sale on the Gold Coast so I think that makes three in Oz. I agree with you about the difference in build quality between the Carribean and US built Bertrams.

The 28 did some things OK. But the 31 can't be beat in a following seas. Also the 28 never won any race and I sure wouldn't want to try one in the conditions that pervailed when the 31 won.

Uh Oh! I can see where this one will go. Probably end up like the trim tab debate. Of course thats what makes it enjoyable to be part of the gang. Let the games begin.

Nic - keep that info on the down low, my friend. It tends to upset many of the B31 owners. But, between you and me, yeah, Lee and the many other knowledgable people say the same thing, and they have been saying it for years. Its not really a secret, except on this site. I recall, a few years back, one of the smartest men I know - while standing on the dock at Port Eads ...

I've spent tons of time on a 28'. They are good in a head sea. Trim the bow down and pour on power. Both are fantastic boats. They're BERTRAMS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Guys we all know it depends on how steep the head seas are and how comfortable of a ride one wants. 22 knots in 6 to 7 is a tough one if the seas are steep. Plus it could not have been a comfortable ride. When the props come out of the water its rough.
