It appears to be the screen.

That looks kind of cool, but its all bad.

Looks like graphics card or screen.

I didnt even think of the graphics card! I will have to ask my friend tomorrow if he is around. It just did this at random to her. :/

It looks like the screen got busted somehow. The LCD on my camera got cracked and it looked just like that.

That looks like her graphics card is messing up. My friend's computer did something similar when she tried to play games on her computer and it turned out she needed a new graphics card. Not sure how much those would run for a laptop, but they're not cheap.
