It seems like quite a few of the importers in Canada have stopped selling anything powered with the 2LT as there have been to many head failures to keep it profitable and the vehicles reliable. So there goes my Prado.... Anyway, has anyone had a cracked head with the 3L Hilux rigs? These are pretty pricey and I had discontinued searching for one but since I am not looking for a Prado anymore...

If the head is on its way to being fully cracked there's no turning back. The cracks occur very progressively most of the time. The head problem is not a valid reason to discard the trucks altogether. People should just make sure they provision the budget accordingly, which is not THAT expensive IMO.

dp, have you thought about bringing in your own prado? With shipping, duty, exchange, as well as a new cylinder head, water pump, timing belt, brake pads, I'm still into it for less than 8 grand. If I'd shopped around a bit at auction, I could have found one cheaper yet, I'm sure. Leaves plenty of room to budget for a new head (if needed). Of course, the ideal would be to wait for a couple...

I have thought of importing one myself but I would rather buy one from a dealer. The importing thing is cheaper but then I have to deal with odo rollbacks and unverified condition. I have also thought of waiting for another with a cracked head to come up for sale then low ball the unfortunate owner. I have seen 2 of these this spring. I know I could do the head for under $1500 but the ...

Hey dp, There are quite a few Prados around still. I know of one that I drive by all the time that is for sale out here and I've seen lots in the Auto Trader. As for the 3L's....no they don't suffer from the same head cracking ailment as the 2LT's. The 3L's have a different head and from what I have read on the Australian forums it's the 3L head that Toyota puts on the 2LT's when they ...

Alberta is still okay, but there have been rumours of crack downs coming. Wayne from Luxury Imports has some sort of adapter for the tailights. You can read about it here: http://forum.ih8mud.com/showthread.php?t=96129 Wes Quote: Originally Posted by d rock how is alberta for registering the prados without the DOT/SAE ...
