The other thread got me thinking of whether the US populations feels overpopulation is a concern or not? Certainly, we aren't as overpopulated as Europe or Africa, yet the effects can be felt IMO. The link below has lots of info. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Overpopulation

It's not over-population that is the problem, I think. I don't believe the government should or has the right to limit how many children someone has. But, what the government should do, is to help create,a new way that we all live. Clean energy sources need to be affordable for people. Mass transit needs to be made more available and convenient. Recycling needs to be instituted everywhere and...

I grew up in the Highlakes area of the Hill country of Texas. There is a town there with a moratorium on hunting deer. Some interesting things happened to the deer population. For a great many years they flourished and many loved to have them. They continued to multiply. Then there was a drought. Trees died, grass didn't grow, and the ACO was overwhelmed with deer carcasses. This was not ...

I'm in line with the others who have already responded. Although I don't think there should be laws, I'm in favor of keeping families on the smaller side. Also, every level of government in every country, as well as individuals, need to develop a mindset of sustainability and leaving a smaller footprint on the earth. And lastly, if every U.S. citizen could go spend a month in a 3rd world country...

I don't think government should mandate number of children per couple. I do believe government should provide better education on overpopulation to society. I strongly believe we should replace yourself = per couple = 2 children. Over indulgence is part of produce more than its self. If we only have 2 to replace yourself, our resources would not deplete so fast to large demand. I'm ...

There is a few different ways to look at the overpopulation issue. Some folks believe it will actually go the other way in another 40 years....peaking and then declining as people have fewer kids and the population gets older. I forgot the numbers but it's something like in the 40's the mean age was 22 and now it is 36............lots of things are changing besides just the numbers. In...

There are many ways to look at overpopulation. One way is to compare consumed resources to number of people. The US, while not overly populous (5% of world population) consumes nearly 25% of the world's resources and creates nearly 40% of the world's waste. From that standpoint, we are more than contributing to the problem. I agree with someone above that natural selection will...

Quote: I sure don't mind other folks having as many as they want as long as they are taking care of them and not on welfare so I have to pay. I have known few people were on welfare with more than 2 children. Their children were raise with respect and became successful members to society. I don't mind paying to support people whom can't support...

I think that their are VERY few families with more than two children so when their are families with 18 children its not a big deal. Many couples are choosing not to have children or to only have one child so I think it evens itself out.
