I've always liked to look at myself as an "adventurer" of sorts. I'vealways loved "adventuring" gear. I've also always liked to dream of Africaand India in the Victorian era of high adventure. To keep a long thread shorter, what are your opinions on vintageadventuring gear, from any time period? What "outfits" have you puttogether, and where have you gotten the pieces from?

Kodiak is asking about the full kit and what inspiration people have had tocomplete theirs. It is separate enough from any existing topic, though manytouch upon it.

You know, I just started reading a book called "Into Africa". It's aboutDr. Livingstone and Henry Morgan Stanley. So far it's very good. I'm amazedhow enthralled the Victorian world was with exploration. It's hard tobelieve that just 150 years ago most of Africa was considered "savageland".Anyway, it's got me thinking all about safaris and exploring and all thatfun stuff. I'm interested to see ...

Thank you for your reasoned response. The "so American" line was unnecessary and ticked me off. Don't look to Hollywood or TV for what the real gun culture in the US is about. I certainly don't claim that simply being in the military gives anyone a pass on correct gun handling. I was merely pointing out that there is a large difference between carelessly handling a weapon while "assuming it was...

They'd be terribly hard to fit through the holes unless the holes were made insanely large, and regardless they would hurt the throat when you move your neck, like a collar that fits too tightly. They would also get caught on things when moving through dense brush. Simply don't look very practical to me.

Sigg products are terribly addicting. I have quite a few items, some vintage and some modern, and want one of the old style flasks and also the 100 year bottle now that I have been made aware of them. Thanks.
