Hey, I have a friend that just got a pit bull and I'm wondering exactly how much of the advertised behavior to expect. I mean, a lot of people have been attacked by Pits, but is it just in their nature or are all these attacks from improper training and treatment? It seems all pit bull owners believe it is how you treat your dog, and non-owners believe it is just in their nature. What's the real ...

The histeria over the pit bull is one of the primary reasons that there have been so many attacks on people. As the pit bull gained notoriety, they were sought by owners who were attracted to its negative image, such as drug lords, gang members, and other scum. These lowlives then abused the pit bulls, making them aggressive, and causing more human attacks. This in turn caused more notoriety, ...

Just look up the history of this breed, and of any other breed of dog. Dogs bred for certain purposes get their temperment/'personality' from their dna. You can not suppress a pit bull's instinct to kill any more than you can stop bloodhound's urge to trail a scent. Pit bulls were created to fight.

Any dog can be raised into a beast. Pit Bulls are just the breed that got the most attention for fighting. Lots of dogs fight, lots of dogs attack people, Pit Bulls are not any more aggressive than your other dogs. They only become aggressive if trained to be. Give any normal dog to your average idiot, and it'll be warped into a highly illmannered dog. Like the guy above me said, it's the owner...

I believe it is purely instincts. Pit bull attacks in Australia are so bad it is the law that all pit bulls must be muzzled and on a leash in public...I was walking my own dog (3 year old Jack Russell) when a pit bull approached without leash or muzzle. It appeared friendly and its tail was wagging (which is usually the sign the dog is not in an aggressive move) but within seconds it had locked ...

Being an ex farm boy I spent a large part of my life around dogs. (It didnt help that my father never got over his childhood dream of wanting to be a vet, so we had more animals around than was sensible). Anyone who thinks the different breeds don't have different predispositions is delusional. Dogs have been bred for work or to achieve certain purposes so that has to be considered as much as ...

That view made me think of racism. I've seen many pittbulls where I live. Someone on every block has one. There is relatively large underground fighting activities. Others that I've seen were trained to protect drugs and/or fortunes. I met someone in the park with one off the leash and it got stolen while we talked. She had him stolen before and found him being used in a fighting pit. A ...

I've heard of and read many stories of people with these dogs being friendly for a while, getting along with people and other pets and one day returning to a living room covered in their other dog's or cat's parts. I guess they're a breed that was selected to be agressive in dog fights, but I'm not sure what studies say.
