i just made meatballs for my toddler from a recipe that called for 1/2 lb ground beef and half a cup of rolled oats. I used my quick oats, does this mean i have to throw them out?

Quick oats will work fine for meatballs and meat loaf. Rolled oats are old fashioned, slower cooking. Quick oats have the hull of the oat cut up a bit so they cook faster. Either will be fine in this recipe.

Rolled oats are oat groats that have been rolled into flat flakes under heavy rollers. Oat flakes that have simply had the bran removed can be cooked and eaten as "old-fashioned" oatmeal, but more highly fragmented rolled oats absorb water much more easily and therefore cook faster, so they are sometimes called "quick" or "instant" oatmeal.
