a.o. Scott is pulling the same trick j. hoberman pulled with salma hayek when he reviewed frida. ignore the aspiring leading lady. in his ny times review, a.o. scott dedicates one sentence to portman and about six to the non-actress nora jones. yeah, not too fishy. what are these managers doing to get this kind of silky treatment for their clients?

I don't really blame him, Nora Jones is pretty much an observer in the film and her performance is hardly memorable. Portman's performance stands out a lot more.

well correct me if I'm wrong, but Norah Jones is the lead right? She's also a first-time actress, so curiosity about her performance will be higher than Portman's. interpretation is the revenge of the intellect upon art.

UPDATED Fri Apr 4 2008 14:52:45 What the H-E-double hockey sticks are you talking about? According to you, people should sue and cry foul any time somebody expreses an opinion somebody might not agree with: MANAGER: How dare you only dedicate one sentence to our leading lady! SCOTT: That's kind of my perogative. It's MY review and MY opinion, you know? MANAGER: It's ...

Natalie Portman has a limited, supporting role, but Norah Jones is the main character in this lightweight, empty fluff of wannabe-whimsy. Now Playing: MLB Baseball: Arizona at Colorado Rape is no laughing matter...unless you're raping a clown!

Portman is only in about a third of the film, and while she is pretty great in it, I found that the plot slowed drastically in her section. The stuff with Jude Law in NYC were my favorite bits, but the scene-stealer is David Strathairn. He breaks your heart in the short amount of time he's around. I really liked the film, but I am the guy who has four (yes, four) Wong Kar Wai films ...
