Hi all. Please excuse me if I created a new topic for arguments that are possibly (at least in part) discussed in others; I'm by no way deep in programming and found some difficulties in understanding several posts. I just wish to report on my own experience in using Emule and on some problems I had. Together with various colleagues from several parts of Europe, since a while we're using...

QUOTE(mylus @ Jun 17 2008, 02:31 PM) The credit system - to our eyes - is good, but has the great disadvantage not to include also negative points. I think that the idea of negative credits and indeed the FineCS mod both suffer from a simple attack where the user downloads 60GB and then changes thier ID. I believe this attack is know as whitewashing....

QUOTE(mylus @ Jun 17 2008, 03:31 PM) The first is the fact that, at least by now, most of the files are "rare", with few sources, often just one. In this situation to us is a big annoyance the wide world of the so-called (?) "leechers", i.e. people that download all that they can, immediately hide the files, and re-share absolutely nothing. This can also be the result of mis ...

QUOTE(mylus @ Jun 17 2008, 05:31 PM) We are not "curious" to see others' shares: it's a necessity given by the fact that big shares are cut by servers, so many files can be traced only via direct search in a complete sharelist. Think about finding a file with a single source. I'm not speaking about the whole eMule's network, but even those thousands you mentioned made the idea ...

Hi all again, you nice Emule's gurus. Try to understand that we are NOT either programmers or pc-addicted guys, but just people that make of their best to make real the 2003 Berlin declaration: http://www.zim.mpg.de/openaccess-berlin/be...decla ration.pdf one of the most disattended 'human-gender' declarations ever. Emule program - may I be frank ? - has generally a bad reputation among ...

Sorry but even your understanding of eMule seems to be limited. Every file in your shared folder is in fact shared. With everybody, unless you only connect with only ed2k or only Kad. But even in those cases source exchange should be improve proliferation of your information. You CANNOT not share files that are in your shared folder. Unless you remove them. The only thing you can do is ...

How will eMule even know until the file is gone? Moving files is done within the OS.

QUOTE(Andu @ Jun 18 2008, 04:49 PM) How will eMule even know until the file is gone? Moving files is done within the OS. I was thinking along the lines of, when you click the reload button in shared files view, or start emule, a message pops up saying: "The files x y and z were shared in folders a b and c, but emule can no longer find these files, please see the help section ...

QUOTE(mylus @ Jun 18 2008, 12:32 AM) DOCTOR: We don't want mods. We have problems enough in making acceptable to have Emule (the evil program....) running within Universities, and we need a common simple standard base. For the same idiot reasons for which they prefer word to abiword etc etc., and pay for costly programs when they could have better ones for free. Sorry to say, ...
