UDP tracker support... | Thread profile

Would it be possible for uTorrent 1.8 to support UDP trackers? Most of the major torrent programs support it so I don't see why uTorrent shouldn't...

Funny how RC2 just added two features. If UDP tracker support will not be implemented in µTorrent, more reason to have staggered updates for the same tracker across multiple torrents running.

I understand your view, but they've said this repeatedly. UDP will not be implemented unless BT, Inc. moves a mountain. I think you'd be more interested in the changes coming in 1.9 anyway

That, and there's a feature freeze on 1.8 as well, but it's not going to happen after that either.

DHT uses UDP too, and it works perfectly fine for 9x% of the people, not to mention that it causes significantly more udp traffic to more destinations.

Indeed, it does, and that's exactly why we sometimes need to tell users to disable DHT when they find that their Internet connection is becoming unreliable while running µTorrent. That said, I don't think the use of UDP in-and-of itself would be a problem with UDP trackers -- it's not like communication with trackers take place often enough for routers to die out of sheer packet volume.
