How the once mythical "runner's high" is helping former users kick the habits, one mile at a time. Maxim Magazine, September 2008 For me it happens around the eight or nine mile mark; a sensation that starts when the hairs on the back of my neck start to bristle with static electricity and that nagging pain in my legs begins to subside. Just at the point when I’m rounding the ...

I've said it before, I don't think I'd still be sober today (after quitting opiates/meth/coke/alcohol 5 months ago) if it weren't for the exercise I now do on a daily basis. As far as it keeping me sober, who knows. It's definitely what's helped the most so far though so I'm not going to knock it, that's for sure. Great article

There was a period of about 4 years when i didn't do a lot of opiates a lot. I'd do some Vicodin about once or twice a month. I wasn't addicted what so ever at that time. And during this time i started exercising. This was before my car accident and before my other pain issues started. I wasn't doing exercise you'd do at a gym, i was hiking. Hiking up in the hills and i did it everyday after...

I can identify with the runner's high the way the article explained it. If I'm on the treadmill at the gym, it takes me about 30 minutes to get to a point of exhaustion where I feel like I'm going to have to stop. Then... the pain starts to fade away, I get more energy, and somehow I'm able to continue easily. It's pretty amazing and I'll feel pretty damn good for the rest of the day.
