Eugenie … the Story of Her Journey into Perversion (1970) http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0064494/ This film by Jess Franco could make his detractors change their minds possibly - even if you don't appreciate the man's work, you got to admit hes very technically skilled and stylish. This erotic tale (which turns into horror towards the end) stars the gorgeous Marie Liljedahl as ...

Jack Smith & The Destruction Of Atlantis - A very informative, enjoyable and sympathetic documentary on avant-garde boundary pushing artist Jack Smith. Gun Crazy - A cult classic film noir tale of sex 'n' guns. It's very entertaining stuff, and there is nice depth to the characters. I really liked this film. Rat Pfink A Boo Boo - Another cult classic I finally got round to. Not ...

I've only seen the first three, but I'm a big fan of them. "Jack Smith" was fascinating and really gave me perspective into the man's work. I'd take him over Warhol any day of the week. " Gun Crazy" is a terrific film noir with some interesting subtext (than again, what great noir is without subtext?). "Rat Pfink" is absolutely crazy. Not my favorite Steckler, but certainly his most mind...

Southland Tales (2006) http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0405336/ Richard Kelly's follow-up to Donnie Darko (which I really liked btw) It's a stupid self-indulgent mess, with nods to David Lynch and Philip K. Dick (a cop character even says "flow my tears..." ) Apparently it's a comedy but I didn't get one laugh out of it. e.g. Sarah Michelle Gellar's porn star character has a music ...

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0384137/ Fascinating portrait of Benito Frattari and Gualtiero Jacopetti, who invented the mondo genre in the 60s with 'Mondo Cane 1 & 2', 'Women Of The World' especially 'Africa Addio' about the gory freedom struggle after the colonists left Africa in chaos and anarchy. Jacopetti stood trail for murder in 1966-67 regarding an on-camera execution during ...

I like this one a lot, actually, but mostly because of the production design. But it was a dud for most involved, and effectively ruined Maddin's career for the next several years. He was sure he would never get to make another film after it, and only revived his career with Heart of the World. I do wish Maddin would go back to color for once, because the colors here are amazing. ...

Cool! I keep meaning to rewatch Rat Phink. I picked up the DVD last year and I'm interested in listening to Steckler's commentary. He's a very odd guy. What saved him from ruin was... ... THE ELECTRIC GUITAR!!!

Gojoe: Spirit War Chronicle (2000) http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0260054/ Directed by Sogo Ishii of Burst City (1982) fame. This is a reworking of a famous Japanese legend regarding a bridge which is supposedly haunted by demons. I'm not familiar with the original tale but apparently he really *beep* with it. The results are a very entertaining historical fantasy which was ...

Infamously bad musical, often considered the worst movie of that genre. This film is a treasure for bad movie lovers. It's just transcendently awful, an assault to the ears and eyes. Ed Wood-level auteur Menahem Golan, who produced such classics as Over the Top, The Forbidden Dance, the Breakin' movies, American Ninja, Ninja 3: The Domination, Superman IV, and Masters of the Universe, ...

Macon County Line (1974) http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0071788/ This Drive-In classic kick started the 1970s "hixploitation" mini-boom. It was written by Max Baer Jr. best known as loveable dolt Jethro on The Beverly Hillbillies . He plays a different role here - a tough, no-nonsense Deputy in a small Southern town. It's the 1950s and brothers Chris and Wayne (played by real life siblings Alan and Jess Vint) are having a...

I thought I had finally started to like Jarmusch, but this one, comprised of five cab rides in five different cities around the world, was pretty much intolerable. I kind of liked the second segment, set in New York, where an immigrant cab driver befriends a black customer whom no one else would pick up. The fourth segment, with Roberto Beningi, is absolute torture. The other three are simply forgettable (well, Winona Rider would be adorable...

"Paths of Glory" is a masterpiece, the second best war film (after "Apocalypse Now") as far as I'm concerned. "Rubin & Ed" is Crispin Glover at his brain-fried best. "Young Playthings" like you said isn't nonstop entertainment, but its an interesting, unique, and intelligent sexploitation film. Sides, Christina Lindberg is such a babe. Forget it, man,...

UPDATED Mon Jul 14 2008 20:39:11 I agree, at the very least Curtis should have received an Oscar nomination. I love the film -- I'm in love with the split-screen technique -- and I think Curtis was simply brilliant. "I identify with the parasites" David Cronenberg

The Killer Must Kill again Very good giallo that. Perhaps the most familiar satanic symbol is the headband of Vince Neil!

Write a nonsense plot about tribe of loveless jungle women who capture males for slavery and breeding. Add another nonsense sub-plot about the discovery of fire to make it all look smart. Hire a handful of pin-up models and doll them up in small dresses of fur and buck-skin. Let the only sort of dialog be a narrator, that will both make it look more authentic and save the cost of live sound recording. Finally, it with wild mammals, an evil...
