It all depends on where you live, here in CT if your close to a bus route all buses have 2 place racks installed on them, but it is first come first serve and some times it is hard as they are getting a lot more use since the gas prices went up to over 4 a gallon still over 4 here too. what we need is more places to secure bikes in the shopping and downtown areas....

I gave up on the bus sometime ago. It can only hold 2 bikes and with the surge of cyclists commuting it is very hard to find a spot. I agree that a secure method of locking up bikes would be nice. Increasing the bus capacity would help as well. Anyhow, I simply ride to downtown and grab the light rail with my bike.

I take the bus/bike combo. It is really nice. I live about 25 miles from work, and most of that is on the bus. So really, I am not much of a bike commuter. I ride about 3 miles total each way. I catch an earlier bus so I can get a spot on the rack. It works well for me. The thing about my commute is even if I rode the bike the whole way in, it would be through a ...

The other day I started feeling a little bonkish on the way home, so I doubled back to the subway station. One thing to look out for is whether your transit system has wheelchair accessible subway stations or not. The one I stopped at wasn't, so I had to carry my bike down the stairs, and then open a gate and go down another set of stairs to get to the train. My home ...

Here in metropolitan Boston, on the Commuter Rail which serves long sectors of the area, bikes are allowed free during non-peak hours which means reverse commuters have an ideal situation. I ride from downtown to a suburb in the mornings and take the train home at night. The more limited subway system, mostly in the city and inner suburbs, allow bikes on most of the ...

Sometimes I combine my bike with the subway to visit some friends (yes L.A. has one, but it doesn't go many places). I don't really consider the buses an option though.. I can usually bike faster to my destination than the bus, even way across town. Example: Bus to work = 1.5 hrs, Bike to work = 50-55 minutes. Plus the whole, only two racks thing.. they get full here...

I've got a MAX that starts about half way in my commute and runs about a quarter of a mile from my office. My office gives us passes for it to help with the burden of gas so I take it when I'm feeling a little sluggish. Knocks about 8 miles off my route. One way is 22 miles. This MAX (Portland) has bike areas so it's nice to have a place to put your bike so you don't...
