I agree, it takes a really stoned DP to step accidentally into frame. Ok, accidents do happen but if DP does it it's kingdom. Yeah, surely I'd freak out if I was an ambitious actor under stress.

No, of course, it's not like I went in expecting a musical. What I mean is seeing the aliens that early in the film weakens the exploration bit and their "awakening" later on. Anyway that's just how I see it

For me, it goes quite a bit beyond "slowing down pacing". It made the pacing at the beginning of Aliens awkward and uneven. A story develops its own rhythm and inserting bits and pieces disrupt that rhythm. There are few exceptions, such as the Extended Editions of Lord of the Rings (to differing extents), which by and large flow better than the theatrical versions (especially Fellowship and Towers ), but those weren't...

Aliens: The Musical could be pretty awesome. I do understand your point too though, and if it had been the first film of the series I would have been very firmly on your side.

I think the crucial thing we're all forgetting is this is Batman we're talking about. The DP got off easy.
