I've been mostly reading manga and the like, but I found some U.S. comics that look pretty cool and have started reading them too. Been a bit stuck on the terminology, though. I know with manga, the creator's called a mangaka. What would the equivalent term be with U.S. comics, specifically for that one main creator?...

They're called "writers". Of course, you can be more specific and call them "comic book writers" if you want.

Occasionally they're called "replaced by a new creative team." A lot more American comic series are company owned instead of the property of the actual creator so sometimes creator's aren't as important or well known

It's a bit more complicated. In western comics the rules are slightly different because first, rarely is the comic ever created by a single person. There are usually two people responsible for the creation: a writer and an artist. For books in the DCU and Marvel which are collaborative efforts spanning decades, this is further spilt ...

We don't have spechul words you've never heard of to use for comic book authors. They're all in plain English.

"d. morris" As someone who makes comics, I just use the word cartoonist honestly. Yeah, but most people wouldn't call the people who make things like superhero comics "cartoonists" on account of it sort of... degrades their work.

I think technically in order to be a cartoonist you have to make cartoons. Which means moving pictures. And while comics imply movement they never actually move unless for some reason you like to hold your comics up to your face and then move your arms around. In answer to the original question if you open up a comic and find the first ...
