I totally love the Marvels from that decade, which was my prime growing up time reading comics. Marvel Two In Ones with The Thing were simply amazing as was Tomb of Dracula. Did you know Marv Wolfman and Gene Colan did the writing and art for the entire 70+ issue series of that book. I also dug some of the more bizarre team books like ...

My favorite was Conan the Barbarian...and later, Marvel's foray into black and white comics with "The Savage Sword of Conan." That was my first introduction to the whole Sword and Sorcery genre, and far more compelling than either of the Ah-nold movies. I read all the top titles - Spiderman, X-Men, Avengers, Fantastic Four - and I never spent a dime. My two older cousins would buy them, read them, and when I visited, send me home with everything they had because they didn't have any interest in collecting them. With the exception of some favorites, I passed them down to my younger ...

Quote from: Mr Stay Puft on April 19, 2007, 07:17:06 PM My favorite bizarre team was the Defenders with a revolving door of members including Dr. Strange, Silver Surfer, Namor, Nighthawk, Valkyrie, Hercules, Son of Satan, Jack of Hearts, and a bunch of others. I seem to remember it subsequently became a home for homeless X-Men. I ...

Quote I seem to remember it subsequently became a home for homeless X-Men. Yep, it did. Another reason I liked it - Beast, Iceman, Angel - all the guys Claremont gave walking papers.

Oh, The John Byrne-Chris Clairmont era for the X-men rocked. That and Marvel Teamup. Every issue had The Thing team up with the most unlikely characters.

Quote from: Mozz on April 20, 2007, 04:40:00 AM Did Rom start in the 70's? I loved that comic when I was about 14. Bill Mantlo was a great writer. The Silver Spaceknight was where I got my start into comics circa 1983. Hell yeah, Mozz.
