I don't understand why RWD has somehow become the posterchild for poor fuel economy. It's got nothing to do with FWD or RWD, economy all in the size and engine choice.

RWD gets 2-3% less MPG over it's FWD counterparts. It's not much, but automakers need every MPG to help reach the new standards.
