I know it's fashionable to neuter pets. It's also a responsible practice. However, I think there are circumstances that would justify not neutering an animal. I have a 7 month old Chow, as some of you might remember (I don't post often). He is scheduled to be neutered tommorow. But now I am having reservations and am leaning toward not going through with it. I got my Chow partly as a ...

J, LOL, I think what you are having is cold feet over putting Bear thru a surgery. We have all felt the anxiety over putting our babies in any situation that might involve a risk. I become a basket case when they just go in for dental cleanings. Some police dogs are neutered, my brother worked in K9 for many years, his dogs (2) were both neutered. Trust me, it didn't affect their disposition...

Dear jjgnc The only reason in the world to not neuter IS IF YOU ARE GOING to show the dog. Otherwise neutering prevents testicular cancer in male dogs.TRUTH. And THEIR hormones go NUTS IF you dont neuter THEM. They will roam if females in neighborhood, nothing will STOP them. Their temperament settles down and everything is much better healthwise and with your kids having A neuteured chow. AN ...

They actually have done research and the bottom line is they don't used neutered dogs because MEN decide and set the arbitrary rule for police dogs. NO REASON FOR IT! That said, in reality, not huge hormone difference. BIGGEST testosterone growth is around 5 to 6 mos, so you won't see huge difference. I don't have Connor neutered because I wasn't sure about competing. He lives protected ...

Dear Dottie So Glad to see you and NO I dont take it personally, what you said. BUT you need to tell the newbie THAT you raise breed and train SHOW chows! NOT JUST FOR FAMILY PETS! For an ordinary person who knows nothing about chows -raising an unfixed male--simply is a problem waiting to happen. You can say the owners of females should be responsible-but that aint the reality when IT happens....
