I have a bed frame that I've had for many years. I do not want to get rid of the head board (and foot board, but I can do without it). I was wondering if anyone has any ideas on how to make a platform bed using the head board that I already have. The current frame have the side bars that lock into the head board and foot board with 3 metal supports that connect between them.

are you wanting to use just a mattress alone, or a mattress & boxspring (set)? if the set, just use a metal bedframe & screw it to your headboard.

My box spring is dying. We had to saw it in half and reassemble it at a house I used to live in since we couldn't get it up the stairs. I have been looking into getting a new low profile box spring, but we want something that doesn't make any noise (family recently moved in with us). I don't know if a new box spring would work for us so we have been looking into converting the bed to a ...

you can buy split queen and split king boxsprings (already split into 2 pieces, for ease of moving). so you're wanting to build your own wooden platform? doing computer work on his knees? that sounds comfortable. you might want to add "table & chair" to the list of items to build.

We have an office and we used to have a desk in the bedroom in the old house, but he prefers to work in that manner. I try not to fight it. I usually have my scrapbooking/crochet/knitting project of the day on the other half of the bed. He want a king bed, but I keep reminding him that no matter the size of the bed, he'll still have the same amount of space.

mla1977, Welcome to the forums. I think Annette is right about building a wooden platform at the appropriate size to accomodate the mattress, and the height you need. After you build the platform, you can just attach the head/foot boards to the platform, and put your mattress on it. It's not very hard, just some planning. It can be done with very few tools, and some know how....
