Are you sure this isn't a drop site for refilling? If you wanted to throw away the empties why would you save them up and leave them in the same place?

I doubt that was backpackers. Looks like about 50 one gallon bottles. That is over 450 pounds of water. When I hiked the PCT last year, I carried half a gallon of water and my pack still weighed 45 pounds. Backpackers, like me, usually carry a water filter, such as the PUR Hiker. If I can find a creek I can get all the drinking water I want. There is no reason to ever carry a ...

The point is that krap is left on the trail and they are not taking it out with them. They blame us for leaving trash and here is a proof that they are leaving stuff they dont want to carry.
