I am going to be installing the XTE 2005 to the split face master socket, then connect the extension cables to the phone side of the faceplate, then run a extension from the ADSL side of the faceplate upstairs to the computer, where the modem is. Would this be correct. Also do the ring wires need connecting, on the extensions used by the phones, or can these be left off. And lastly, i ...

Ie there being no cables fitted to the Blue ...

By connecting your extension to the unfiltered terminals you are back to square one. The purpose of a filter is to remove the ADSL signal and the primary benefit of a faceplate is that you do that at the earliest opportunity so your ADSL signal does not have to pass over poor quality extension wiring where it is degraded. So at the moment it sounds as though your faceplate has nothing to do as ...

Yes the ring wire needs to be connected on the voice extensions otherwise some phones may not ring. There is no advantage in removing it for voice connections.

For the ADSL extension, you use just the blue wires. On the inside of the filter faceplate, connect the BLUE/white wire to terminal B and the WHITE/blue wire to terminal A. At the other end of the ADSL extension (the end where you're going to be putting your router), connect the BLUE/white wire to terminal 3 and the WHITE/blue wire to terminal 4 of the RJ11 faceplate. For the voice ...

Most people prefer the router to be near the computer so they can see what it's doing. If the ADSL extension from the unfiltered terminals on the faceplate is run in CAT5/CAT5e cable, the performance is the same as the ethernet method. Ethernet cable is CAT5 anyway. JaX

Thanks for that reply James67, that was very useful information. Also to make sure that the RJ11 faceplate is wired up correctly i am going to post a picture of the back of the plate, to make sure the wires go to the correct points. Thanks for the help with this problem.

From what i said in my first post of this thread, about the wiring of the RJ11 wall plate i have attached a picture of the back of the wall plate, to make sure that the extension from the back of the filtered faceplate, to the RJ11 wall plate is wired correctly. Any help with the wiring of the RJ11 wall plate, greatly welcomed. Has anyone got any ideas about this. See attached ...

Yes and also your upstream is 764. If you had been on max with ADSL then the upstream would be 768

I unsure of which face plate to purchase the XTE-2005 or NTE-2005? Any advise? Thanks in advance Andy

Yes i probably should have mentioned that im not using the router supplied as it could not obtain any signal at all even when connected to the test socket. I was told to try a different modem.. so i tried an old BTVoyager100 modem which is what im using now.. ill try to find the router stats.. Im really confused with it, surely the adsl signal is taken before the extensions come in so i dont see how they can be affecting it.

Cheers Brian, what you say does make perfect sense. Have to wait a short while to go this route, no job at the moment, only in the short term hopefully.

The cable you have is not suitable for connecting to the terminals on the rear of the faceplate. IDC terminals are only suitable for solid core wire and the RJ11 cable is stranded.

So in other words if you reboot in the morning you get a higher sync but if you reboot in the evening or as said earlier after midnight post # 72 you will get a lower sync but a higher noise margin but your line will be more stable. Is that correct ?
