Hab - I think the OP may have forgot to point out that on the Australian site, they're being forced to use paypal ONLY from now on "as an experiment". I do believe this IS illegal as it forces people to pay more fees when they don't want to. Of course it would mean EVERY transaction is catalogued and answerable to ebay. This could be a good thing but if ebay want to enforce paypal as an only ...

Within legal limits, it's ebay's ballpark, which means they get to make the rules. Both buyers and sellers have a free choice as to whether to accept those rules, or go somewhere else. Most of my customers pay by Paypal, and 99.5% of those transactions to date have gone without a hitch. I don't particularly like Paypal, due to their fee structure, lack of accountability, lack of transparency, ...

#21-"Paypal only" is a very dubious move, and I expect that sellers will circumvent it when necessary. Not difficult to mail customers to ask for a cheque instead. Possibly in the Australian case, paypal only will make little difference,as a lot of Australian buying is done offshore, and paypal is easiest for that.

An interesting experiment, certainly. I suspect there would be no legal problem with doing it - Amazon already do only allow payment through their system. I'm read posts on here from people who have their own websites where they only accept payment by cheque. Are they breaking the law? Of course not! I cannot imagine ebay daring to do it here anyway - and if they did, I wouldn't initially be ...

Paypal is a quick method of receiving payment. I fyou think they are expensive then try renting something like a card machine from one of the banks - monthly rental, minimum charge/percentage final value and then a charge to credit your business account

#19 I think ur missing the point entirely there, mate. I love using my Visa card to buy stuff online - its quick easy and i dont get charged fees every time i use it to buy something. The point is, Paypal DOES charge greedy little fees each time u use their service and Ebay owns Paypal now. Which means Ebay have the cheek to charge us not only for listing items and paying them commission on the...

You don't get charged as the buyer by Paypal either. The seller gets charged by Paypal. We at Auction houses and all of them charge a % fee for paying by CC to cover their costs, they don't charge a fee for paying ...

Amazinmg how many wrong points I keep missing, and still struggle on making money on EBay. If you think EBay are greedy, try B and M and a merchant account-you'll be lucky if it costs you less. The number of posters on a so-called business forum who think EBay shouldnt behave like a business is becoming ridiculous.

Paypal-20p and 2.75% on an item price-there's hardly a credit card system which charges less, and then only to bigtime dealers. Most sellers on EBay wouldnt even be able to get a merchant account, and if they did the machine lease would usually kill the profit.

If everyone is so happy with Ebay then how there's been a massive boycott going on since May 1st? Not to mention the previous February boycott...
