I just purchased a used BT-99 in really good condition. Tried to trace back the serial #...but its totally off from what Browning lists. I found a couple of old post where folks had similar serial #'s..but never any real answers. The serial # is 37D16XXX It appears to have some kind of recoil reduction system in the stock...Im guessing mercury tube????? If you hold your ear to the ...

My copy of "Matt Eastman's Guide to Browning's Sporting Firearms 1924 - 1985, Updated Through 1987" (not a short title ), has this info; Year/Serial No., first three characters 1971 71D 1972 72D 1973 73D 1974 74D 1975 75D 1976 76D D is the model. After 1976, I assume the newer date code using letters was ...

Can you post a picture of it? Also include the whole serial number. There is no need to X out part of it. _________________ Remember, you can post here because they died over there.

While doing a "search" here, before I posted I found someone else a couple of years ago asked the same question as I did...and his serial # was of the same sequence...37D1xxxx. Interesting.....

Yes, that was me! My BT-99 starts with 37D and then the serial number also. I suspected that maybe it was a 73 model with the numbers transposed, but wasn't sure. They must have stamped at least two that way, mine and yours. Wonder how many more? Anyway mine is a 32 inch barrel, fixed choke of IM constriction, standard Browning recoil pad, with adjustable comb. I had never owned one, but had ...

arvo11 Mine is 32', fixed full, non adjustable comb. Recoil pad was changed and it has some kind of mercury recoil reduction deal in the stock...if you listen close you can hear it sloshing around. The gun has beautiful wood, fits me well and came with the factory case. Has'nt been shot too much, blueing is 98%, lever well right of center. I gave $750 for it...and Im happy with that...

Mine is a few years newer and uses the new serial numbers. It has RR in the SN which makes it a '77 model. I like the fore stock with the finger grooves. It isn't in perfect condition, but what do you expect for a 31 year old gun? I love this gun and don't see selling it anytime soon. I will hand this one down to my son. The benefit of not being in perfect shape is that I'm not afraid to try some of the stock work myself....
