Previously I mention that the D-Theater version and the BD version were the same (and that maybe so). This was after renting the BD version checking out a few scenes. Google Checkout needed another item... so I added Transporter, even thought I already own it on the other format. So, it's another rainy day in Seattle. But at least there is no more blackouts like ...

Yep. Both connected to a manual HDMI switch, feeding a HDMI to RGBHV box to a Sony 1292 9" CRT PJ. I don't have a good way of doing 1080p in this current config.

This actually doesn't surprise me at all. I had a feeling early on that the studios were not going to give us D-Theater quality on the new disc formats. And keep in mind that according to Fox The Transporter BD is a 18Mbps MPEG-2 encode so its already starting at a disadvantage compared to D-Theater. Those of you with the big D-Theater collections are lucky ...

I know the tape very well, can't wait to compare, the 5 Mbps less is enough to put it at a disadvantage already though I do not understand Fox and these 18 Mbps Mpeg2 releases, they aren't that good IMHO, the Omen is about the worst BR to date when it comes to artifacts, posterization and etc. 18 Mbps for a 1.85:1 movie in Mpeg2 is not gonna cut it at all ...

I have not seen the D-Theater version, but I thought that the BD version of Transporter looked much better than some other recent BD releases, such as Enemy of the State and Devil Wears Prada.

one thing I can say is that the D-Theater Transporter has some nasty EE in it, I wonder if the BR used the same master ? -Gary

Has anyone here compared the Bluray version to D-VHS using the Panasonic player? I personally have not heard anything good about the Samsung IMHO. And I keep hearing about how much better the Panasonic player looks compared to the Samsung. I only remember seeing D-VHS when I was at CES a few years ago and have not seen it since. I just remember that for being a ...
