Don't know an exact price, but they are quite expensive, if I were you I would look at radio shack. That is where they get them for my dads work, but I will also tell you this, they are not only expensive but they are also difficult to program.

Good hand held scanners start around 200$ and is relatively a waste of money unless you know how to use them and have a reason to. Most of the people I know who have one in their car are Fire/Police or EMS professionals.

Also, they don't seem to be around very long around here, what I mean is the police seem to always be getting new communication devices thus making your expensive scanner obsolete.

I'm a volunteer and I have one in my house. It picks up all the police, fire and EMS frequencies I'v programmed. Also picks up most towns in Hartford county. I don't see why your guys would be any different assuming your towns police use two way radio frequencies. The only way I can foresee a scanner being useful is if you planned your trip out. Say your going 100 miles through CT. You would have to program the CT State police...

We have a scanner in our house because my dad is the fire chief. The scanner picks up some stuff but not all that my dads city issue radio does. If i were to program the channels into the scanner it would pick up what they were saying, but it is scrambled on most channels because the radio or scanner has to be programmed into the system. So unless you have an inside person in your police force to program your radio into the system, it really...
