There are other sound cards, other than the SoundBlaster line. I don't know about the low profile, though. HERE is one low profile option and it says it has S/PDIF. Home Built Intel DP35DP M/B and Q6600 CPU - Vista 32 Home Premium Dim E510 Vista 32 bit Home Premium/SP1

I just purchased an Inspiron Desktop 530S from the Dell Online Outlet. It's my intention to connect this to the entertainment center / home theater in my family room and use Vista Media Center to playback audio and video content stored on my Windows Home Server. My entertainment center includes a Sony 5.1 surround sound amplifier that has many inputs. To date, I've connected my other...

Whether the analog outputs on the integrated card are compatible with YOUR home theatre system is up to you to decide. You will have to check the available connections on your theatre system amplifier. However, if you use the analog connections it should be kept to 20 ft or less cables to avoid any potential signal and or fidelity loss. If you want the S/PDIF you would have to...

Thanks. My amp (a five-year old Sony STR DE-875 5.1) has four optical (Toslink) digital inputs, one coaxial digital input, and one "MULTI CH IN" input that is composed of L/R Front, L/R Surround, Center, and Sub RCA-style inputs. Most sound cards--including the one that is integrated into my Inspiron--have Front, Center/Sub, and Rear 1/8" mini-plug stereo outputs; is that correct...

Chris i got the card through Dell support, who gave me a telephone number to order it. They said because it was a low profile card it would fit. What you can do, before you break the seal on the box, give a gentle shake if you hear a rattle, then the low profile bracket is inside. Changing over the brackets is easy, its two nuts and bolts. Inspirion 530s Intel(R) Core 2Duo CPUE6550 @ 2.33GHZ Drive 1 320GB WD cavier SE16,...
