(That doesn't cost hundreds of dollars like 'Vax') Looking for a voice over LAN software for my house. Not really sure what to say other than that. Please reply if you know of anything. (Not sure if Ventrilo has that function as we've always used Teamspeak, which doesn't seem to.) Thanks.

Ventrilo can do it, one of your computer have to run the server , then all other(s) connect to said "server"via the LAN ip... works fine, tested numerous times. Make sure to forward the ports

Either Ventrilo or Teamspeak will do it, but you need a computer running the server. I would recommend Teamspeak over Ventrilo. It supports all the same codecs (anybody who tells you Ventrilo is better quality doesn't know how to set it up), but the free server is better. Vent's free server only supports 8 clients maximum, TS's free server supports up to 100 (though it is slightly harder to set ...

Thank you. Just so I understand. It's impossible for one computer to run the server software with the client software to speak as well? (It's fine as we have 2 computers near each other and the 3rd in the next floor. One of the 2 near comps can be the server, but I just wanted to make sure.) Thanks again.

You know what, I just thought of something. I am going to Rome here in about 2 months and instead of buying a phone card, I can just set up a TS server on my home computer before I leave, have my parents and inlaws connect and then we are talking for free!! However my fiancee does hate it when I am overly cheap, so maybe I should just pony up a phone card, but good to know it is there!
