What does it take be a Zoologist? | Thread profile

Okay, so I want to be a Zoologist when I grow up. I am barely starting High School, but as I've seen time passes by quickly. So I want to ask some people that know about how to become a Zoologist, or are Zoologists. Can you guys please explain to me the things I have to study and what colleges major on Zoology. (Close to the Bay Area or in California . Others are welcome too, I don't care!) I'...

I, too, want badly to be a Zoologist when I grow up. I'm just finishing elementary school, so it's a long way off. =P Anyway, to my knowledge, Zoology requires extensive knowledge of animals and I think you must get a Doctorit or PhD.

I've been looking at colleges that offer Majors in Zoology, I found one in San Francisco. In State University Of California, I found the classes you've need to take to get into that college. Paper_meerkat and RDW; The fact that you have set your goal to become a Zoologist so early in life is a good indicator you will achieve that goal. It is not necessary to obtain a PhD to become a Zoologist. whttailtx46 Thank you, I only took one year of Earth & Physical Science in the 8th grade. I am taking a course this year in the 9th grade. I also got accepted in the AVID program, so it gives me a good advantage!

Paper meerkat, I was a zoology major at Humboldt State (trying to get into wildlife management - impacted program but eventually went into geology/hydrology due to jobs available at the time) & at least in the 70s it had one of the most challenging programs. Gotta have a good memory, be ok with specimens that leave you smelling so bad people back away from you in the cafeteria, lots of chemistry...
