With all due respect to my esteemed colleague totamus, I believe that the saddle and nut can have much more than a slight impact on the tone and sustain. I had a bone saddle and nut put into my Yamaha at different times and I could hear the improvement in each and it was more than 1% for sure. The distinguished gentleman from New Hampshire is correct, a dense material saddle and, to a lesser degree, nut, makes a noticeable difference. I do not believe there will be a discernible difference between the ivory and the bone though. I cannot tell the difference. Click on the link and read the article. It only contacts the guitar on the very edge (it is scooped out underneath) and holds your arm off off the soundboard, allowing the soundboard to more fully vibrate. The difference is very surprising. Doc Watson uses them.
