This past weekend I installed an Edelbrock Performer 5.0 and a Ford Racing 65mm TB and I'm having a couple problems. I believe the timing is off and that is what the cause of the following problems are. First, there isn't as much power, it just seems to hesitate, also it sometimes struggles to stay on and occasionally when I give it full ...

A definite possibility. Are there any vac leaks?

Yes, the timing could be off and a vacuum leak is also a distinct possibility. If you check for both, I think you'll find the cure to your problem.

I'll take the upper intake off next chance I get and make sure everything is good. I've recently noticed what appears to smoke coming from my exhaust when I give it some fairly heavy throttle. It doesn't smell like burning oil or coolant. I've never smelled anything like this before, it's kind of sweet smelling. Gaskets? My CEL is on also. I'll ...

Sweet smelling is a telltale sign of coolant. Did you use 4 studs in the corners to guide the intake down? That makes life much easier, since it'll go down straight, and helps keep the intake gaskets from shifting. I'm betting one or both of the gaskets shifted, and you have a leak between the intake and the heads, so you're getting unmetered air, and some ...

do you have the filter screen "mesh" beneath the PCV valve, on the back side of the lower intake? mine managed to drop out one time while it was off, it would blow smoke under throttle until it was replaced. This is obviously not the cause of the CEL or your other issues.
